Report: Global NCAP Raises Concerns Over Emerging Market Safety

A report on an influential auto industry news site, AutomotiveWorld, has highlighted Nissan’s position on vehicle safety standards for emerging markets. The report states that, despite Nissan’s stance on the issue, many vehicle manufacturers are moving to improve the quality of protection that their vehicles provide.

In the report, Global NCAP’s secretary general David Ward said: “The experience of companies resisting the inevitable is that eventually, they are proven wrong and they have to adjust. In the 1990s in Europe the same kind of dismissive criticism came from car manufacturers. They were wrong then and I think [Nissan’s] Andy Palmer is wrong now.”

Nissan’s criticism of efforts to introduce the UN’s minimum safety standards in emerging markets is also contrasted with Volkswagen’s strategy in the report.
