Renault “Capturs” Attention With Four Stars For Adult Safety
The New Car Assessment Programme for Latin America and the Caribbean, Latin NCAP, launched its latest results today, alongside the 25th International Conference on the Enhanced Safety of Vehicles in Detroit, USA. The Renault Captur, which is manufactured in Brazil, and was recently launched in Latin America markets, had solid four star performance for adult occupant protection and three stars in child occupant protection.
The Captur offers ESC as standard in all versions as well as 4 airbags (2 frontal and 2 side thorax-head type). The good performance of seatbelts and pretensioners together the airbags and a good performing structure explain the four stars adult occupant protection result.
The Captur also offers ISOFIX anchorages, a passenger airbags disabling switch to safely install a rearward CRS in the front seat as well as very clear instructions for CRS installation. In addition, the child occupant protection during the front and side crash was good even when the CRS were installed using the seatbelts. Most of the CRSs assessed for installation pass. All of the above explains the three stars for child occupant protection.
Alejandro Furas, Secretary General of Latin NCAP said:
“The Captur shows the potential of local industry to produce and offer safer cars that exceed governmental requirements and that perform good with today’s tougher protocol. Renault should be proud to show their consumers the crash test result of the Captur. We encourage Renault and other manufacturers to keep improving their model ranges to achieve four and five stars”.
María Fernanda Rodríguez, Latin NCAP President said:
“I congratulate Renault for achieving a four-star result for adults with the Captur, but also encourage them to continue working to improve the child safety for this vehicle. I would also like to see all of Renault’s best-selling models offering the same safety levels as the tested model introduced today”.
The fourth round of Latin NCAP results will be released in July.
