Recognising outstanding achievement in vehicle safety
Global NCAP Awards 2024
Global NCAP’s Awards, presented on the occasion of the NCAP24 World Congress, recognise some of the outstanding leaders working in the field of vehicle safety in three categories: Consumer Champion, Innovation and Individual Achievement.
Presented at the NCAP24 Gala Dinner in Munich, this year’s Award recipients are:
Consumer Champion:
Australasian NCAP, for thirty years of consumer protection and vehicle safety advocacy
Innovation:
the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) for their ground breaking new Road Safety Index
Individual Achievement:
David Ward, for his career long achievements and commitment to road safety
Consumer Champion: the Australasian New Car Assessment Programme (ANCAP)
Having celebrated its 30th anniversary of independent safety rating in Australia and New Zealand, ANCAP has crash tested thousands of new vehicle makes, models and variants and in the process has become a critical source of consumer information in vehicle selection for private and fleet buyers.
Innovation: the FIA Road Safety Index
The FIA Road Safety Index provides organisations with a methodology to assess their road safety performance and calculate their safety footprint, using a similar concept to carbon footprint calculators.
The final version of the Index will be one of the FIA’s contributions to achieving the UN target of halving road traffic deaths and injuries by 2030, enabling road safety improvements worldwide.

Individual Achievement: David Ward
David Ward has been the source of inspiration and leadership for countless road safety developments which have helped shape the vehicle safety agenda initially in Europe, and then subsequently across the world, particularly in low and middle income countries where the majority of road casualties occur.
Working in leadership roles for the FIA, Euro NCAP, the FIA Foundation, the Commission for Global Road Safety, the World Bank Global Road Safety Facility, Global NCAP, Latin NCAP, the Towards Zero Foundation, Safer Cars for India, Safer Cars for Africa, the Stop the Crash Partnership, the 50by30 campaign, the Global Network for Road Safety Legislators, the Commonwealth Road Safety Initiative… David’s career long commitment to advocacy action has created a uniquely impactful legacy.
