Crash Test Organisations From Around The World To Meet In Melbourne

Marking the third anniversary of the United Nations’ Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020, the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) will host the 2014 Global NCAP Forum in Melbourne on Monday, 5 May 2014.

The Global NCAP Forum is being held in conjunction with the 2014 UN Decade of Action Policy & Donor Forum organised by the Commission for Global Road Safety and will see senior representatives from New Car Assessment Programs (NCAPs), or crash test organisations) around the world converge to discuss the progress of vehicle safety across each NCAP region and the challenges NCAPs face as vehicle safety moves ahead in leaps and bounds.

Global NCAP Secretary General David Ward said: “Establishing NCAPs in all world regions is a key objective of the UN Decade of Action. The Melbourne meeting will show the powerful impact new NCAPs from Asia and Latin America are having promoting ‘five star’ safety in new cars.”

Presentations will include:

Global NCAP Secretary-General, Mr David Ward (Decade of Action: Vehicle Safety Overview)

Latin NCAP Chief Executive Officer, Mr Alejandro Furas (Vehicle Safety in Emerging Markets)

ASEAN NCAP Secretary-General, Mr Khairil Anwar (Vehicle Safety in Emerging Markets: ASEAN Perspective)

Euro NCAP Programme Manager, Mr Aled Williams (The Potential of Crash Avoidance Technologies)

The importance of fleet safety will also be highlighted with the launch of the Global NCAP Fleet Buyer’s Guide. The Guide establishes best practice for fleet operators in their vehicle selection and provides guidelines on sourcing safe vehicles in emerging markets where minimum safety standards may not be a legal requirement.

A highlight of the Forum will be the presentation of the 2014 Global NCAP Annual Awards by His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent, Patron of the Commission for Global Road Safety.

Media are invited to attend the Forum and conduct interviews at the conclusion of the event.
